Abstract

Urbanisation and Climate Change are two processes altering natural hydrological patterns in catchments. Permeable pavements are a type of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUOS) providing an opportunity to reduce the effects of both these phenomena by helping to restare the water cycle and contributing to make more resilient cities. This article presents a description of the composition of the main types of permeable pavements, including the materials commonly used far their construction. In addition, an overview of the main research projects concerning the study and implementation of permeable pavements in Spain is provided too.
