Abstract

Road construction and maintenance are associated with high consumption of natural resources. The research carried out in this doctoral thesis has focused on seeking alternatives to the consumption of natural resources, and in particular, to those used in the manufacture of asphalt mixtures. The use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), the incorporation of industrial waste and the use of Crumb Rubber (CR) from wasted tires have been the alternatives used for this purpose. In this way, by incorporating RAP and industrial by-products, asphalt mixtures with a natural aggregate replacement up to 98% was demonstrated at the laboratory level. On the other hand, using the dry process, it has been seen how the incorporation of CR in asphalt mixtures made with conventional binder makes it possible to achieve a performance, in certain laboratory tests, similar to that of a reference mixture made with polymer modified binder.
