Resumen
Cracks are occasionally detected in large structural steel components after hot-dip galvanizing. Those cracks threaten the structural integrity and the security of the constructions in which those components are mounted. In the last years some research projects have been performed to solve the problem, and they have achieved great challenges, but they have been centered in the studies at large scale of the phenomena. This Thesis, from a meticulous bibliographical study and a new and technically complex experimental program, puts forward a qualitative model at microscopic scale in order to explain the failure mechanisms of structural steels during hot-dip galvanizing as detailed as it allows to give recommendations to the galvanizing technicians to reduce the mentioned failures to the maximum. This model, along with numerical studies at large scale and models which are being developed, can be the first step so as to develop a future standard that eliminates the problem.
