Resum
Most of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries members have decentralized the management and financing of their health care and welfare systems that are linked to political and budget constraints. Besides, the level of Welfare State achieved by each country is determined by its income or demand and supply factors. Therefore, this thesis aims to deepen in the analysis of the social and health care expenditure (or indicators as human capital or child mortality), Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and sociodemographic characteristics (elderly, chronic conditions, immigration, etc.). In doing so, the study of these main determinants is taken from a macroeconomic point view as starting point but finally we also consider some microeconomic implications. It is basic for the design and evaluation of public policies and strategies performed by governments
