Abstract

In this Doctoral Thesis waste from industries in different sectors is studied in order to determine optimum application as recycled aggregates in the construction of civil works. The intrinsic properties of the waste are studied, as well as its characteristics as aggregates and as constituent elements of road pavement layers, bituminous mixtures and concretes. Bituminous mixtures and concretes have been developed, showing that the applications of industrial aggregate studied are technically and economically feasible, as well as safe and durable, being a clear substitute materials for natural aggregates made from quarrying. The industrial wastes studied are black slag from electric arc furnace (EAF) steel industry, Ferro Silico Manganese slag generated in the Ferroalloy manufacturing and the residue from calcination of limestone in the Solvay process. We analyzed the current legislative framework regulating the possible application of this waste and characterization tests are made according to the corresponding technical regulations.
