Zusammenfassung
The purpose of this pilot study was to assess if the chewing gum, Nogadent®, has an anti-plaque effect in a single application. A hundred of dental school patients volunteered to participate in this clinical trial, 68 chewed the gum for an average time of 48 minutes, while 32 served as controls. The plaque index of Quigley and Hein was determined at the beginning and the end of each test period. The test persons showed a significant reduction in the plaque index (17.8%) while the controls experimented a slight increase. Further research is needed to verify this effect and to determine why it is produced.
