The professional biography of José María Rozada offers great insight into the experiences of those primary and secondary teachers who entered the profession in the final years of Franco’s dictatorship and whose commitment to «the transition» was articulated on two levels. On the one hand, the search -on an individual or collective level– for innovative teaching strategies, which with the passing of time and with the subsequent reforms of diverse democratic governments had made them increasingly “critical”. On the other hand, their participation in teaching unions and similar organisations perceived as a tool to improve state education. Through this commotion, Rozada’s autobiography presents us a complex and enlightening analysis of his professional practice, enriching the pedagogical debate.
