Una mejor comprensión del impacto del deporte y la actividad física sobre la salud, la integración social, el mercado laboral y el rendimiento académico

Resumen

El deporte y la actividad física tienen una reconocida trascendencia en la sociedad debido a su repercusión, tanto económica como no económica. En relación a la primera, los efectos comprenderían la contribución del deporte a determinadas macromagnitudes, como el producto interior bruto (PIB) y el nivel de empleo. Y en relación a este último indicador, se derivarían también efectos microeconómicos en el mercado de trabajo. Pero además de la existencia de impactos económicos directos, el deporte tiene importantes repercusiones sobre el estado de salud individual y el rendimiento académico, y tiene un papel crucial en la formación del capital social y como factor de integración. Es importante resaltar que todos estos efectos no solo son relevantes en sí mismos, sino que su trascendencia se debe a que indirectamente también tienen repercusión en el mercado laboral. Como consecuencia, en este artículo se estudia la función del deporte en relación a todos estos impactos; además se identifican lagunas existentes, así como limitaciones metodológicas en la literatura previa. Por último, de forma más específica, se abordan las implicaciones de la práctica deportiva para el contexto español, que pueden orientar a los responsables políticos para alcanzar un conjunto de impactos deseables en la sociedad.
