Resumen
En este artículo se lleva a cabo una revisión de los desarrollos más recientes en el análisis de la demanda de los deportes profesionales, con especial atención al papel de la incertidumbre del resultado y el suspense y la sorpresa. A su vez, se presentan dos trabajos empíricos aplicados a la asistencia en directo a los partidos de la Primera División española de fútbol y a las audiencias televisivas de la selección española. Los resultados muestran que, si bien para los telespectadores la incertidumbre del resultado supone un mayor atractivo, para la asistencia al estadio su efecto es un tanto contradictorio y apunta a un mayor interés en asistir a partidos con mayor talento de los jugadores de ambos equipos, mayor intensidad competitiva y una mayor probabilidad de que gane su equipo (local).
