Some mineralogical and textural characteristics that can affect the water transmission properties of granite have been studied. The fluid movement processes inside this type of ornamental stone have been also characterised. In this sense, three granites of different grain size and similar mineralogy, have been selected. The properties determined have been density, open porosity, water absorption, capillarity, evaporation, vapour absorption, and water vapour permeability. An ANOVA statistical method has been used to compare the slight differences found in the properties of each granite. Results showed that porosity and pore size distribution are the main properties that influenced the water transmission in these granite, which exhibited very similar mineralogy, texture and alteration.
