Background. Gender Dysphoria (GD) is often accompanied by great body dissatisfaction. Therefore, this population can be of high risk for the development of Eating Disorders. Currently there is very little data on the prevalence of eating disorders in people with GD. The objectives of this study are: to determine the vital prevalence of Eating Disorders in the users of the Gender Identity Treatment Unit of Principado de Asturias and; to describe the clinical variables according to whether or not they present an Eating Disorder associated with the GD. Methods. A review of 151 clinical histories was carried out. 64.2% belonged to the Male to Female (MF) group and 35.8% to the Female to Male (FM) group. Results. The vital prevalence of Eating Disorders was 9.9%. 15 people presented some Eating Disorders in their lifetime, 12 of which belonged to the MF group and 3 to the FM group. The comorbidity associated with people with GD, depending on whether or not they have an Eating Disorder, differs significantly in depression, anxiety and personality disorder. Conclusions. People with GD could be considered a population at risk for the development of eating disorders. Research in this line is necessary.
