Resum

The concept and the process of determination of the centric relation have aroused great controversy for a long time. One could come to the conclusion that they are more acceptable than accurate. Objetives: To determine whether the transferences made through conventional techniques locate the lower model in terminal hinge axis. lf they do not coincide, find out in which sense the differences exist. Material and methods: A lower tray is designed so that it can be joined to a Kinematic arch, permitting: 1) To determine terminal hinge axis. 2) To mount both models in terminal hinge axis. The axis-teeth radius are compared to those obtained through conventional techniques of centric relation recording (one-hand, two-hands, and jig of Lucia), in 20 patients. Results and conclusions: Conventional techniques tend to relate both models in an advanced position of the jaw with relation to the determination made in terminal hinge axis.
