Abstract

The main aim of this research was to know the primary teacher´s perception, put into practice for the first time, the TRIAL Classroom model. This emerging model is based on Cooperative Learning, Project Based Learning and Sport Education. It is distinguished by the following elements: a) a similar structure to the sport seasons b) rotating roles among the students, c) oral exposition about the final product; d) auto and hetero-assessment; and e) a final event which culminates the unit. A case study of was developed, based on a qualitative method, pre- and post treatment teacher´s interviews. The implemented unit lasted 10 hours during 4 weeks in which Natural Science and Spanish Language and Literature were involved. From the qualitative analysis six categories were emerged. Findings indicated the teacher perceived an increase in academic performance, enthusiasm, relationships and inclusion of the students. Moreover, the need of a higher level of professional development was emerged when instructional models were implemented, and a teacher change in the way of organizing his sessions. In the future, researches should analyze the student´s perception about different educational stages also implementing experimental designs and a mixed methodology.
