Résumé

Both laboratory studies and epidemiological surveys of large population groups have demonstrated the inverse relationship between plasma levéis of High Density Lipoproteins (HDL) and arteriosclerosis (coronary and peripheral). Further studies, both transverse and longitudinal, indícate a clear association between Increases in HDL and physical exercise, although it is yet to be confirmed whether this Is the only factor responsíble for such increases, as well as other possible causes. In view of the interest awakened by this new aspect of sport as a source of health, in Physiology of Exercise laboratories attempts are being made to prove hypotheses based on the intramuscular metabolism of the plasma lipids, using sophisticated new experimentation techniques.
