Abstract

The adoption of the Bachelor and Master Degree structure of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) implies the redesign of all curricula in European universities. The curricular quality that these titles offer will depend on the development strategy used for their design. At present, the process is just starting in Spain, with the design of a small quantity of Master Degrees and with some experiences of partial adaptation of current Engineering Degrees to the Bachelor Degree of EHEA. However, complete skill developments will have to be carried out this year to start in September 2009. This paper proposes a strategy for the integral design of curricula on the basis of a model of dependences among professional competences, criteria and restrictions fixed by the faculty, formative goals, technical contents, and subjects and courses where they are learned. At the end of this process of design, a plan of study is obtained. The plan of study is formed by a set of subjects, each one specified through a list of formative goals associated to the professional competences of the degree and the number of ECTS credits for each subject. The proposed strategy is based on (1) the experience of adaptation to the EHEA of the Informatic Degree from the Facultat d'Informàtica de Barcelona and (2) the elaboration of the formative program of the Master of Web Engineering offered by the Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica en Informática de Oviedo.
