Résumé

Five first inferior bicuspids were treated by scaling and then, some of them were polished, others were etched using Maleic acid and the rest were treated combining both procedures. The objective aim of this experimental study was to know the effect that different ways of treating radicular surfaces produced on them, in order to find out a procedure to improve radicular surfaces after scaling. The roots were now watched at SEM. The results reveal that the polished surfaces do not show differences with not polished surfaces. The surface etching with maleic acid creates a more rugous surface, possibly because of eliminating the smear layer formed by scaling. Anyway this is an explorator study and more investigation is still needed.
