Resumen

INTRODUCCIÓN. Esta investigación examina varias hipótesis de la Teoría Cognitivo Social de Desarrollo de la Carrera (SCCT) (Lent, Brown y Hackett, 1994) con una muestra de estudiantes universitarios de la rama científica. Esta teoría explica las decisiones vocacionales de los estudiantes por la influencia ejercida por distintas variables: las creencias de autoeficacia, las expectativas de resultado, el interés, las metas y las barreras y apoyos sociales percibidos a lo largo de la trayectoria académica. MÉTODO. La muestra estuvo formada por 232 estudiantes (106 alumnos y 126 alumnas) matriculados en el segundo curso del Grado en la Rama de Ciencias (Geología, Biotecnología, Química, Física y Matemáticas) de la Universidad de Oviedo. Se aplicó el instrumento Engineering Fields Questionnaire, adaptado por el equipo de investigación para su aplicación a los estudiantes de ciencias. Se ha evaluado la estructura factorial del cuestionario y se ha comprobado el modelo SCCT mediante la técnica estadística de Ecuaciones Estructurales. RESULTADOS. Se corroboró la influencia de las creencias de autoeficacia y las expectativas de resultado sobre el interés por las actividades científicas y los intentos por persistir en los estudios elegidos. No obstante, otras hipótesis básicas del modelo SCCT no fueron corroboradas, tal es el caso de la influencia de las creencias de autoeficacia sobre las expectativas de resultado. DISCUSIÓN. Los resultados corroboran la mayor parte de las hipótesis del modelo SCCT pero no todas. Por ello, investigaciones posteriores deben analizar, con más detenimiento, la aplicación del modelo a los estudiantes universitarios de ciencias.
