Abstract
The Libro de las Constituciones of Don Gutierre de Toledo, bishop of Oviedo, was written between the years 1377-1389, therefore, it provides an excellent language account of the late 14th century. Having taken it, then, as a corpus for analysis, we have made a detailed study of the different grammatical units that are involved in the construction of simple sentences. We have described the role of nouns, adjectives, pronouns and adverbs within their sentential functions, as well as the role of those units that are straightly related to them, like prepositions. Also, we have analyzed the role of all determiners in subsentential functions, always highlighting those aspects that made them distinctive with respect to modern language.
