Abstract

ln the lastest years, empirical researchers have focused special attention on the measurement of economic efficiency. This fact has resulted in an enormous development of he techniques to obtain frontier functions that have been employed. ín this paper, a survey of the literature is presented summarizing the evolution of the econometric approach on estimating parametric frontier functions and efficiency indexes. The paper specially deais with the more significant advances in modeling temporal variation of efficiency and its consequences on the estimation of frontier functions.
