Abstract

Security has become an unavoidable topic in contemporary political and criminal debates. The real and legitimate meaning of the concept must be stated: it is necessary to distinguish real security from perceived security, and feelings of security from the effective protection of legally protected interests; to recognize that concepts of security and risk are not univocal, but constructed from the different political and social directions; and to consider the role that security must pay in each area of the Criminal Justice System, in concurrence with other legitimate objectives of the System.
