Resumen

Este artículo tiene como objeto el revisar la influencia del soporte social sobre la salud y bienestar. Se ha revisado el tema intentando conseguir los siguientes objetivos: (a) situar el marco conceptual en el cual se encuadran los soportes sociales; (b) comprender la naturaleza y características de los soportes sociales; (c) conocer los efectos atribuidos a los soportes sociales sobre la salud, conductas saludables y enfermedad, y mecanismos de actuación; (d) examinar, en particular, las redes de soporte social en la Esquizofrenia; y (e) discutir los conocimientos existentes hasta hoy y derivar conclusiones e implicaciones para su posterior estudio.
