Abstract
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of psychomotor development disorders that cause a personal activity limitation attributed to foetus or child cerebral developmental problems. Quality of Life (QoL) reflects people’s desired conditions regarding eight basic needs that represent the nucleus in everyone’s existence: emotional, economic and physical well-being, interpersonal relationships, personal development, self-determination, social inclusion and rights The aim of this paper is to present GENCAT scale in order to meassure cerebral palsied people QoL. Methods: Review describing GENCAT scale in order to meassure cerebral palsied people QoL. Content: It is a validated scale and adapted to Spanish population and it has national and internatinal approval. It uses a Likert scale with four different response options, varying from «never or almost never» to «always or almost always» depending on their agreement with the proposed statement. The 69-items survey is divided in the 8 factors that define the concept of quality of life: emotional, economic and physical well-being, interpersonal relationships, personal development, self-determination, social inclusion and rights. Conclusions: This scale seems to be appropiate to be usually used to evaluate disabled population´s QoL. We consider of vital importance to dispose a validated scale and adapted to spanish population in order to meassure disabled population´s QoL.
