Resumen
: The provenance of Deuteronomy remains greatly contested. Scholars generally agree that some part of Deuteronomy was most likely written during Josiah's time, and that it is very unlikely that it was written during the Mosaic period, they cannot agree on Josiah's mo-tivations that underlie the 'finding'. Deuteronomy fits previous established methods of creat-ing (viz. 'discovering') new law. How much he knew about the true provenance of the book found in the Temple we can no longer know, but, as examined in this paper, we cannot apply the idea of fraud to this textual 'finding'.
