Abstract

This Thesis studies Arts Education in Extremadura, dividing it into four main chapters. Starting with the national context helps to understand how Arts Education has been developed from the guild system to the Academy as an introduction to the rest of this chapter. The second part of this research introduces the history of Arts Education in Cáceres. From the 19th Century to the current times, this chapter studies different institutions such as the Popular Academy of Drawing or the Provincial School of Arts and Industries, in which it is possible to analyze the impact of politicians and teachers. The third chapter is focused on Badajoz, city which has been studied in previous works by other authors. Because of that, this part of the research describes a more specific part of the history as it may have been the press that is the most important source of this chapter. Following the structure of the rest of the chapters, this one starts studying institutions from the 19th Century to the present. The chapter that follows this one moves on to consider Mérida as another important place for the art education in Extremadura. Researchers have not treated this part in much detail; because of that, it is important to recover the history of Arts Education in this city.
