Doctor by the Universidad de León with the thesis Análisis y modelado multiescalar de los efectos del cambio global sobre la dinámica y función del paisaje en espacios de montaña. Aplicaciones a la ordenación territorial 2010. Supervised by Dr. Estanislao de Luis Calabuig, Dr. Susana Suárez Seoane.
Research interests. I am a landscape ecologist with 15 years of postdoctoral experience in remote sensing, spatial modelling and conservation science. My research topics are related, but not limited, to: 1] spatial tools for the assessment of ecological niches and species distributions at various spatiotemporal scales; 2] large scale habitat (vegetation) mapping with remote sensing and Copernicus data and services; 3] evaluating the effects of land use and cover (LULC) change on biodiversity patterns, ecosystem functions and services across environmental gradients; and 4] identification of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to design of Blue-Green Infrastructure Networks (BGINs) for landscape conservation and restoration purposes. To date, my expertise in spatial ecology and quantitative modelling shape my profile as easily adaptable to multi-disciplinary collaborations. I have built an extensive and diverse research network after more than 50 national and international projects with research institutions and private multinational companies. I have published 43 SCI articles in national and international journals occupying the top positions of Multidisciplinary Sciences. My research and international outreach have been carried out thanks to participation in 54 competitive projects, 27 funded by the European Union (Interreg, LIFE, H2020, Horizon Europe, EEA tender and BIODIVERSA) and other international organizations (BID). 9 are national projects funded by Spainsh Ministries (MITECO and MICIU) and 17 by regional administrations (Cantabria, Castilla y León, Cataluña and Baleares) and Universities (León, Cantabria and Wageningen). Major findings have been reported in national or international conferences resulting in MORE THAN 60 congress contributions, MORE THAN 40 of them international. Concerning my teaching profile, I have been teaching 450 accredited hours in 2 public universities during 20 academic years in 3 Master, 4 Grades and 6 subjects. I have supervised 4 PhD thesis, 19 M.Sc. and 5 BSc (TFGs and practicums). I have also co-organised more than 60 specialized courses and workshops. I have been scientific reviewer for multiples journals, evaluator of research projects for Autonomous regions and part of master thesis panels and PhD tribunal defences. Finally, I have two sexenios evaluated positively as competitive researcher and have recently submitted the university teacher accreditation to the Spanish Agency of Evaluation and Accreditation (ANECA). I am active on promoting a more egalitarian academic system, supporting to give visibility to minorities and closing the gender gap in academia.
