Abstract
This thesis examines the aesthetic impact of the concepts of space and spatialization on the creative thinking of composers of music for technological media (MMT) in Colombia, in the period between 2000 and 2022. The study combines historiographical, musicological and ethnomusicological approaches to explore how these ideas have shaped creative practices in this musical genre. The work begins by contextualizing the foundations of the project, highlighting its relevance and the motivations that support it, as well as offering an introduction to the concept of MMT. Subsequently, the historical evolution of this type of music in Latin America is addressed, highlighting the first manifestations, the pioneering artists and the key institutions. In the Colombian case, an exhaustive analysis of archives is carried out that allows to identify the actors, activities and circuits that promoted the development of MMT in the country. The study also delves into the concepts of space and spatialization, reflecting on their meaning and relevance in 20th century music. The techniques of sound spatialization and their impact on audience perception are explored, addressing both the technical aspects and the creative dimension. Interviews with South American composers provide a broad overview of how these concepts have been incorporated into music. Among those interviewed are Oscar Pablo Di Liscia (Argentina, 1955), Miguel Llanque (Bolivia, 1981), Cristina Collazos (Bolivia, 1990), Rodolfo Caesar (Brazil, 1950), Felipe de Almeida (Brazil, 1980), Rodrigo Cadiz (Chile, 1972), Paul Wegman (Chile, 1984), Rafael Subia (Ecuador, 1985), Gabriela Yanez (Ecuador, 1989), Daniel Luzko (Paraguay, 1966), Rajmil Fischman (Peru, 1956), Claudia Sofia Alvarez (Peru, 1991), Francisco Lapetina (Uruguay, 1970), Lucia Chamorro (Uruguay, 1991) and Juan Manuel Sanchez (Venezuela, 1984). Through their testimonies, the study analyzes how architectural, acoustic and symbolic spaces influence their creative processes and their interaction with spectators. In addition, the study focuses on Colombian composers such as Mauricio Bejarano Calvo (1955), Federico Demmer (1956), Ricardo Arias (1965), Rodolfo Acosta (1970), Ana María Romano (1971), Jorge Gregorio García (1975), Jaime Rojas (1977), Daniel Prieto (1978), Melissa Vargas (1980), Luis Fernando Sánchez (1982) and Ximena Delat (1986). Their reflections and works illustrate how space and spatialization are integrated as essential elements in their artistic proposals. Finally, the research concludes that space and spatialization are key components in MMT. These concepts not only influence the technical aspects of the compositions, but also provide a significant poetic and affective dimension. Its relevance is evident in the works of both South American and Colombian composers, consolidating itself as indispensable elements in contemporary musical creation.
