Abstract
Situated in a context of initiation to research in physical education (PE), the main objective of thisarticle is to present in a basic and simple way some keys that can guide and facilitate the methodological design of research studies. To this end, the document is structured in two parts. Firstly, some preliminary recommendations are made, consisting of a review of the literature, including theories and reference frameworks, to adequately define the problem statement and formulate objectives. Secondly, a brief overview is given of the different types of classical methodological designs (descriptive studies, studies of association between variables, interven-tion studies -quasi-experimental-, and literature reviews) as well as other possible approaches (development of a new instrument, studies based on surveys, essays for debate, and contribu-tions to teaching practice -pedagogical documents-). Applied examples are provided to facili-tate a concrete visualisation of the different types of designs. In addition, and in a cross-cutting manner, this essay aims to stimulate scientific debate with the idea of strengthening an evi-dence-based perspective of PE, which can overcome possible inconsistencies arising from oc-currences.
