Abstract
The aim of this study is to present and discuss the results of a research about paleopathological conditions in the dentition of a mediaeval skeletal sample (11th centuries) from place in Palencia, NW of Spain. The sample comprises 488 permanent teeth and 507 dental sockets of 24 adult individuals. They were examined for the following categories of dental condition: antemortem or postmortem tooth loss, caries, dental wear, calculus, periodontal status and periapical lesions. We used the diagnosis criteria and data analysis methods proposed by various authors. The results of these dental diseases are compared with other skeletal series, or similar chronological and geographical context, to improve our knowledge about life conditions and/or status in mediaeval populations in the North of Spain.
