Abstract

We analyse the evolution of the fluvial net’s hydrodinamic behavior of the river Cares and its tributaries Casaño and Ribeles, during the Quaternary. The sedimentological analysis of the deposits located around Arenas de Cabrales reveal that the stream of theses rivers had a behavior of torrential type. Two phases are clearly distinguished. The ancient phase is characterized by an flow of carrying power moderate and by a big capacity of dissection. In this phase the highest terraces are formed. The terraces are hanging and defined by its limited thickness, massive structure and its texture of matrix-supported. In the most recent phase the flow is very energetic and has a high ability to transport coarse clasts. In this phase a higher number of terraces are formed. These terraces have a greater thickness and a massive and chaotic structure although with textures of clast-supported.
