Resumo
Of the many topics this patriarchal and authoritarian institution might offer the researcher, probably one of the most interesting is related to its furniture. The habitability of the enormous premises of the University of Gijon resulted in eighteen awards of contract to the manufacturer Aurelio Biosca, who designed and produced the furniture of highest quality. The director and architect, Luis Moya Blanco, personally determined the aesthetic guidelines and standards of quality according to a functional style in contrast to the building's historicist architecture. This article analyzes the historical and social contextualization of the building from a revisionist and critical perspective using documentary sources, photographs from publications, and taking into account the pieces and models that remain current today. The study also examines the building's furniture heritage, whose designs are related to those that Michael Fisac had previously projected for the Central Building of the CSIC in Madrid by the same manufacturer.
