Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the principies behind the selection criteria for the use of screw-retained or cemented implant-supported prostheses. Material and Method: A bibliographical review was undertaken of scientific publications and books published in the last 15 years that made reference to screw-retained or cemented implant-supported prostheses. Results: Both, screw-retained or cemented implant-supported prostheses, have their advantages. Luted systems provide passive fitting, axial loading, biologic behaviour, and aesthetics. The screw-retained implant-supported prostheses allows for better profile emergence and force momentum reduction. Conclusions: The selection of implant-supported prostheses retention must be based on its advantages and disadvantages and not the clinicians preference.
